OVERALL APPEARANCE Upon first meeting this woman, you will notice one sure thing, she is a beautiful woman. She has light brown eyes. Like warm honey, medium-sized and oval shaped, the outer corners of her eyes slanted upwards. She has lush long hair, falling in a mass of dark brown curls to the middle of her back. She stands at five feet and three inches, short by Pern height standards. She has filled out over the Turns from a ravishing beauty to a more adult version. Despite of her age, she's managed to keep her slender shape and weight of 152 pounds. Underneath her skirts, she hides shapely legs, and strong legs at that.
PERSONALITY Warm, gentle, loving. When a person first meets Mona, she is very warm and open, allowing anyone to see the softer side of herself. She is welcoming to anyone that needs help or needs a willing ear. She is gentle, yet firm, when dealing with her children or fosterlings. And it almost seems that nothing escapes her notice, and it baffles her fosterlings to no end. She has a good chuckle seeing as they have not yet realized that her beloved gold firelizard, Starling, is her second pair of eyes. She is loving, and some of her closest family would say too loving. She doesn't care, though, but loves to just dote on them.
Prideful, helpful, intelligent. She is very prideful of her lineage and takes it seriously should anyone slight her family. And she will demand retribution, as she is hoping to attain for the death of her daughter's lifemate. She has a deep hatred for anyone that would want to willingly harm another creature, dragon, human, or other. She loves to help out around the Hold. As if anyone would dare to tell her to let others do it for her. Silas tries, but fails misserably. Since finding out that he'd have her daughter's lifemate killed, and hence her daughter, she ignores him, but only for the little things. She is very intelligent and will observe a situation before intervening. She loves to be challenged, mentally, by anyone that thinks they are smarter than her.
Clumsy, calculating, reserved. There is no easy way to say this about Mona. On good days, she has no clumsiness, but on her bad days? Everyone cringes if they hear her coming down the hall. She hates being so sharding clumsy, but she's not sure about the why of it. Everyone has their clumsy days, right? So, why can't she? She is very calculating. She can bide her time and then strike. She uses this to her advantage when dealing with the children of the other Lord Holders. She's never turned down a challenge to teach this Lord Holder's son or that Lady Holder's daughter manners. In most respects, and when she's out with her husband for Gathers and such, she's very reserved. She'll smile and nod her head, or shake such and such hands. But on the whole, she's not very open out in public.

Mona's mother is an Igen cousin of the Nerat bloodline. As such, she was accustomed to a certain luxury of life. Morren was the Heir to Fort Hold, a particularly handsome young man and Malla fell in love with him and they were hand fasted a few months later. Despite the fact that Morren could not provide the elegance that Malla was accustomed to, they were happy. Their first child was a girl named Larra, followed three years later by Mona. The couple was supremely happy as Morren received a promotion in the guard, taking command of ten men and Malla found she was pregnant with her third child. They celebrated with a picnic beside a tranquil stream and Larra played by the water while 14 month old Mona toddled about her parents. While Morren was feeding Mona, Malla was keeping a sharp eye on Larra. She turned her attention to her husband and Mona just for a moment, but it was enough and Larra fell in the stream and drowned.
Malla was distraught at the death of her eldest child and refused to eat for nearly a sevenday. It took the aggressive attention of a healer to preserve her life and that of her unborn child. Morren took on the care of Mona and had taken her with him on patrols in a backpack. When Malla was recovered, she took back the care of the little girl, cosseting her and keeping her so close that no harm would ever come to her. As young as she was when Larra died, Mona had no memory of her sister and since the girl was never mentioned, she believed herself to be the eldest of five. As Mona grew, she became the depended helper of her mother in tending the younger children. As a child, she never understood her mother's paranoid restrictions and often chaffed under the tight hold. Her only respite was in the Harpering classes that all youngsters attended.
When Mona was twelve turns old, a third girl was born to Malla, the spitting image of Larra. The girl was given the name of Marra and Malla felt her to be a second chance and focused all her attention on her. Mona felt acute relief as her mother's constant eyes were turned elsewhere. Morren felt relief as well and began taking his five eldest children with him to the main hold where they could play with other children. When not on patrols, Morren would let Mona and Mallik, the eldest boy, accompany him as he moved about the hold on his various duties.
Mona's favorite part of the hold was the Tailor's and when she could, she spent time there, watching the beautiful colors of cloth worked into dresses, tunics and other garments. She spent so much time there that she became something of an unofficial apprentice, holding pins and fetching extra thread and needles. She liked to study the designs for the dresses and fantasize about wearing such garments one day. When she was 13, death struck the family again. This time it was her father who died. Morren was wounded in a skirmish with some renegades that had been reported as harassing and attacking wagons in the area. He was brought back to the hold and treated by healers, but the wound became infected and despite all efforts, died a sevenday later.
Malla was still completely wrapped up in Marra and almost unaware of the rest of the family. News of Morren's death brought little reaction other than a faint lassitude when she was not tending to Marra's every desire. Mona was almost exclusively the caretaker of the household, making dinner for her younger brothers and herself while Malla tended only to Larra and herself. Over the next few turns, Mona tended to her brothers and herself. She arranged for Mallik to join the guard, as he had always wanted to do, and she got Mallorn apprenticed to the hold smith. She herself did washing and mending for neighbors to keep the family solvent.
She is awkward about her timid relationship with her sister. Mona was happy with her life until she turned 21 turns old. Her mother confronted her with the startling news that she must handfast, and within one turn. Mona had no choice but to accept. She had met the intended suitor at a previous Gather when she was 13 turns. She didn't like him. She felt he was too cruel. She refused that suitor without any guilt. At the next Gather she met Silas. He was a nice man and the Heir to Bendeb Hold, but also liberal in his dealings. Malla didn't think to highly of his views. The two were in love. Everyone could see it but Mona and Silas. They considered each other more of friends than anything else.
Mona and Silas were at Ista Weyr visiting with some dragonrider friends when there was a gold flight. Mona and Silas were caught in its midst. Mona was 22. She got pregnant during that flight. Mona didn't know until a few weeks later, she was found vomiting heavily by her mother. Her mother demanded to know what happened and who could be the Father. Mona told both her parents about the gold flight and of her night with Silas. Both parents were livid with anger, but they knew a gold flight was hard to shake off. The next day Mona met with Silas and he agreed to a hand fasting with Mona. He was ecstatic that she was pregnant with his first child. A few months later, Mona was handfasted to Silas.
Turns past rapidly for Mona. She thought too quickly. Because before she knew it, children were grown and off doing their own things and living their own lives. She loved the times they would come for visits. And on one such visits, five turns ago, she received a fire lizard egg on her birthing day. The egg hatched a sevenday later, spilling a dark gold fire lizard into her lap. She gasped and immediately started to feed her, naming her Starling for the bright gold mark on the gold’s forehead that resembled a star. She never thought the day would come, though, when she’d hear the news that her oldest daughter and son were killed. And her daughter’s beautiful lifemate, killed before her daughter! It made her furious to learn that her husband, of all people, would want any harm to come to their oldest children! And since then, she has begun to plot against her husband for the death of her two oldest children. Even going so far as to make plans with Dragonrider D’mian.
